LATTULAC 67.0 g/100 ml 100 ml syrup contain: Active ingredient: lattulose 67,0 g. 15 ml syrup contain: Active ingredient: lattulose 10,0 g. For the full list of excipients, see paragraph 6.1.Excellent
Purified water.Therapeutic indications
Short-term treatment of occasional constipation.Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to the active ingredient or any of the excipients. Contraindicated in subjects affected by galactosemia. Gastrointestinal obstruction. Laxatives are contraindicated in subjects with acute or unknown abdominal pain, nausea or vomiting, obstruction or intestinal stenosis, rectal bleeding of unknown origin, severe state of dehydration. Generally contraindicated in pregnancy and nursing (see paragraph 4.6). Generally contraindicated in pediatric age (see paragraph 4.4).Population
1 tablespoon or 1 single-dose sachet = 15 ml = 10 g lattulose. 1 teaspoon coffee = 5 ml = 3,3 g lattulose. The solution of lattulose can be given diluted or so which together with an adequate amount of water (a abundant glass). A fluid-rich diet promotes the effect of the medicine. Preferably in the evening. Adults: The average daily posology is 10-15 g (10-20 ml) in two administrations or 1 sachet/die. This may be doubled or halved depending on the individual response or the clinical picture. Pediatric population Children: From 2.5 to 10 g/die (5-15 ml), even in one administration, depending on the age and severity of the case at the doctor's judgment. For reduced administration to children (less than 10g/die in one administration) the use of Lattulac syrup is recommended. Milking: On average, 2.5 g/die (1/2-1 teaspoon coffee), according to the doctor. The use of Lattulac syrup is recommended for infant administration. The correct dose is sufficient to produce an easy evacuation of soft feces. It is advisable to initially use the minimum doses provided. When necessary, the dose may be increased, but never exceed the maximum indicated. Laxatives must be used as frequently as possible and for no more than seven days. Use for longer periods of time requires the doctor’s prescription after adequate evaluation of the individual case. Lattulose is very small and has no calorie value.Conservation
200 ml bottle: Store at a temperature not exceeding 25°C. Once the container is opened, the product must be used within 12 months and stored at a temperature not exceeding 25°C. 15 ml single-dose envelope: Store at a temperature not exceeding 25°C.Warnings
Warnings In patients who have disorders caused by excessive intestinal meteorism it is appropriate to begin treatment with the minimum doses indicated; these doses may be increased gradually in relation to the patient's response. If constipation is stubborn, consult your doctor. Laxative abuse (frequent or prolonged use or excessive doses) can cause persistent diarrhea resulting in water loss, mineral salts (especially potassium) and other essential nutrients. In the most serious cases, dehydration or hypopotassiemia may occur, which may result in cardiac or neuromuscular dysfunctions, especially in the case of contemporary treatment with cardiac glycosides, diuretics or corticosteroids. The abuse of laxatives, especially those of contact (stimulating laxatives), can cause dependence and, therefore, possible need to progressively increase the dosage, chronic constipation and loss of normal intestinal functions (intestinal atony). Precautions of employment Pediatric population In children under 12 years, the medicine can only be used after consulting the doctor. It should be taken into account that the evacuation reflex may be altered during treatment. Treatment of chronic or recurring constipation always requires medical intervention for diagnosis, prescription of drugs and surveillance during therapy. Consult your doctor when the need for laxative comes from a sudden change of previous intestinal habits (frequency and evacuation characteristics) that lasts for more than two weeks or when the use of laxative fails to produce effects. After a short period of treatment without appreciable results consult your doctor. Patients in digital therapy should consult the doctor before starting therapy. Lattulose is very small and has no calorie value. However LATTULAC contains, in addition to lattulose, also galactose, lactose and small amounts of other sugars. This should be taken into account in the treatment of diabetic patients and in patients following hypocaloric diets. For diabetic patients it is necessary to consult the doctor. You should also consult your doctor before using the medicine. Patients with hereditary problems of galactose intolerance, lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose mal absorption should not take this medicine.Interactions
Laxatives can reduce the time of stay in the intestine, and therefore the absorption, of other drugs administered simultaneously orally. Avoid ingesting laxatives and other drugs at the same time: after taking a medicine let spend a range of at least two hours before taking laxative. Wide-spectrum antibacterial and antacid agents, administered orally at the same time as lattulose, can reduce their degradation by limiting the possibility of acidification of the intestinal content and, consequently, therapeutic effectiveness. It is also possible to increase the activity of lattulose, if this is administered simultaneously to neomycin. The lowering of the pH in the intestine, characteristic of the mechanism of action of lattulose, can cause the inactivation of drugs that have a release profile dependent on the pH of the intestine (e.g. 5-ASA drugs). The drug may result in an increase in the toxicity of digital drugs for potassium loss.Effects
Gastrointestinal diseases Occasionally: isolated crampiform pain or abdominal colic pain, more frequent in cases of severe constipation and flatulence during the first days of treatment that normally disappear after a few days. Flatulence, abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting; diarrhea (with excessive dosages). Frequency reactions not known: Immune system disorders: reactions from hypersensitivity. Pathologies of skin and subcutaneous tissue: rash, itching, hives. Disorders of metabolism and nutrition: Electrolytic imbalance due to diarrhea. Reporting of suspicious adverse reactions The reporting of suspicious adverse reactions occurring after the authorization of the medicinal product is important, as it allows continuous monitoring of the benefit/risk ratio of the medicinal product. Healthcare workers are required to report any suspected adverse reaction via the national reporting system at the address https://www.aifa.gov.it/content/segnalazioni-reazioni-avverse.Overdosing
Synonyms Excessive doses can cause abdominal pain and reversible diarrhea with the suspension of the drug. The resulting losses of liquids and electrolytes must be replaced. See also the paragraph “Special Warnings and Precautions of Use” about the abuse of laxatives. Treatment Interruption of treatment or reduction of dose. The resulting losses of liquids and electrolytes must be replaced. There are no adequate and well-controlled studies on the use of pregnant or nursing medicine. Therefore the medicinal product must be used only in case of need, under the direct control of the doctor, after evaluating the expected benefit for the mother in relation to the possible risk for the fetus or for the infant.
