Description
A quick screening test with one action, for semi-quantitative determination of alcohol in saliva.
Enabled for forensic use.
The reactive strip for rapid alcolimetric test from saliva sample is a quick and very sensitive method to determine the presence of alcohol in the saliva and provide an approximate value of the relative concentration of alcohol in the blood.
This test only provides preliminary screening. To obtain confirmation of the analytical result, a more specific alternative chemical method must be used. The result of each test should be a clinical evaluation and a professional opinion, especially when preliminary investigations are positive.
It has been ascertained that the concentration of alcohol in the saliva is comparable to that in the blood. The reactive strip for quick alcolimetric test from saliva sample is composed of a plastic reactive strip with a reactive swab placed at the end. In contact with alcohol solutions, the reactive buffer will immediately change color, depending on the concentration of alcohol present in the blood. The reactive buffer uses a solid-stage chemical system that exploits a highly specific enzyme reaction.
Mode of use
Indications for use
Before testing, allow the reactive strip to reach the ambient temperature (15-30 °C).
1. Avoid putting anything in your mouth for fifteen minutes before the start of the test. This indication includes non-alcoholic beverages, tobacco products, coffee, mints for breath and food, etc.
2. Sputate the saliva in the collection container.
3. Open the aluminum box and remove the reactive strip for the test. Observe the reactive buffer at the end of the strip. If, before applying the saliva sample, the reactive buffer is blue, do not use it.
4. Saturate the reactive buffer with the saliva from the collection container or by applying the saliva directly on the buffer. (Normally it takes 6-8 seconds for saturation). Immediately after the application of the saliva, start the timer.
5. Read the result after two minutes. Compare the color of the reactive buffer with the color chart on the aluminum box to determine the relative concentration of alcohol in the blood.
Interpretation of results
Positive: The reactive strip for rapid alcolimetric test with saliva sample will change in color in the presence of alcohol in the saliva. The color can vary from heaven with a relative concentration of blood alcohol of 0.02% to dark blue with a relative concentration of blood alcohol near 0.30%. This range of swab colors allows you to obtain an approximate value of the relative concentration of alcohol in the blood. The test can produce colors that seem to be between two adjacent coloured pads.
NOTE: The reactive strip for rapid alcolimetric test with saliva sample is very sensitive to the presence of alcohol. A lighter blue color of the coloured tampon corresponding to 0.02% should be interpreted as positive in the presence of alcohol in the saliva but with a relative concentration of alcohol in the blood below 0.02%.
Negative: if the reactive strip for rapid alcolimetric test to saliva sample does not show any color change, this result should be interpreted as negative, to indicate that the presence of alcohol has not been detected.
Null: If, before applying the saliva sample, the reactive buffer is blue, do not use it.
NOTE: If the outer edges of the coloured swab produce a slight coloring, but most of the swab remains colourless, the test should be repeated to ensure the complete saturation of the swab with the saliva. The test cannot be reused.
Precautions
The reactive strip for rapid alcolimetric test from saliva sample is a test that allows visual interpretation, using color matching to provide an approximate value of the relative concentration of alcohol in the blood. Test materials that have been exposed to saliva should be treated as potentially infectious. Do not use the reactive strip for quick alcolimetric test to saliva sample after the expiry date indicated on the aluminum packaging.
Restrictions
1. If after eating, drinking or smoking, you do not wait 15 minutes before testing, you can get incorrect results, due to the possible contamination of saliva with substances that interfere.
2. The reactive strip for rapid alcolimetric test with saliva sample is very sensitive to the presence of alcohol. Alcohol vapours in the air can sometimes be identified by the reactive strip for rapid alcoholic test with saliva sample. Alcohol vapors are present in many public buildings and houses. Alcohol is a component of many household products such as disinfectants, deodorants, perfumes and glass cleaners. If alcohol vapours occur in the environment, it is recommended to test in a vapour-free area.
3. The intake or use of counter medicines and alcohol-containing products can produce positive results.
Conservation
The reactive strip for rapid alcolimetric test to saliva sample must be kept at 2-30 °C (36-86 °F) in its sealed aluminum packaging. If the storage temperature is higher than 30 °C, the test execution can be altered. If the product is refrigerated, the reactive strip for rapid alcolimetric test to saliva sample must be carried at room temperature before opening the packaging.
Format
Reactive strips for testing, collection container, leaflet.
