SPECIAL MEDICAL FINISHES
with Edulcorante
indicated for the food regime
post-surgery bariatric
Bariatrifast is a dietary food for special medical purposes indicated for the post-bariatric surgery food regime.
Bariatric surgery
Surgery that deals with surgical techniques that aim to reduce body weight and adipose mass.
Mainly, bariatric surgery is divided into malassorbative techniques and restrictive techniques.
Risks subsequent to bariatric surgery
Scientific literature shows that patients subjected to bariatric surgery are at high risk of nutritional deficiency, especially with regard to vitamins and mineral salts such as iron, selenium, zinc and copper.
The nutritional deficit can lead to chronic deficiencies in subjects subjected to malassorbitive bariatric procedures.
Vitamin B12 deficiency
The vitamin B12 deficiency is a common consequence of gastric bypass due to reduced digestion of protein binders colabamines and a lower formation of the complex vitamin B12 intrinsic factor.
If the deficiency protracts you have a high risk of irreversible neuropathy.
Iron deficiency
Iron and anemia are the most common complications as a result of bariatric surgery.
For this reason an additional iron supplement of at least 45 mg per day is required, whose absorption can be increased by the presence of vitamin C.
In cases of gastric bypass and/or other malassorbative interventions the guidelines suggest the integration of 65 mg of iron twice a day in association with vitamin C.
Vitamin C deficiency
The supplementation of vitamin C determines the increase in intestinal absorption of iron.
Folate, calcium and vitamin D deficiency
The most frequently encountered deficiencies in patients subjected to strict component procedures (gastric bendage and gastrectomy sleeves) concern in addition to iron, folic acid, calcium and vitamin D.
It is recommended to take calcium separately as it could hinder the intestinal absorption of iron and zinc, so calcium has not been inserted into the product.
Carenza di tiamina
Tiamina is absorbed through the proximal duodenum.
The shortcomings of this vitamin are due to a decrease in the secretion of gastric acid and a reduction in daily intake or are due to regurgitation.
Vitamin A, E, and K deficiency
The deficiency of fat-soluble vitamins resulting from bariatric surgery is induced by biliary acid deficiency.
The deficiency of vitamin A, in particular comes from poor nutritional intake, from mal absorption and/or altered liver release of vitamin.
With regard to vitamin K, its deficiency is found in 50-70% of patients over 2-4 years after the operation.
The administration of vitamin E is necessary, as its deficiency can determine anemia and peripheral neuropathy.
Selenium and copper deficiency
Nutritional anemies, following bariatric mal absorption surgery procedures, may result in selenium and copper deficiency.
What are the recommendations based on a consistent scientific evidence?
The qualitative-quantitative composition proposed for Bariatrifast is based on international guidelines and is specially designed for the feeding of individuals subjected to bariatric surgery, to supplement the shortcomings of vitamins and trace elements, preventing any pathologies associated with such deficits.
It is advisable to take Bariatrifast constantly during the first year after surgery and then repeat to cycles as suggested by international guidelines.
It is recommended that the prescription be personalized by the doctor depending on the patient's clinical situation.
It can also be indicated in all those morphological situations characterized by mal absorption problems, such as during oncological therapies.
