REACTIVE STRIPS

Description
System for self-control of blood sugar.
Reactive strips must be used with BGStar, iBGStar and MyStar blood glucose meters for quantitative determination in the whole capillary blood.
The BGStar strip contains the oxidase glucose enzyme (GOx) with a chemical oxidation mediator that produces an electrochemical signal proportional to the glucose concentration in the blood sample. The blood sugar meter measures this signal, using dynamic electrochemistry to correct common analytical interference, such as heatocrite.

How to use
Check the performance of the reactive strips with the instrument through the BGStar control solution:
The BGStar control solution with normal and high concentration contains a certain amount of glucose that reacts with the BGStar reactive strips along with the BGStar and iBGStar blood glucose meters or the MyStar family to make sure they work properly together.
Tests with the control solution must be carried out when:
- you use the tool for the first time;
- it is suspected that the reactive tool or stripes does not function properly;
- it is suspected that the test results are not accurate;
- the tool fell, was damaged or came into contact with liquids;
- you are advised in this regard by your doctor.

If the test results of the control solution do not fall into the acceptable range printed on the BGStar reactive strip bottle for the control solution in use (normal or high), repeat the test. One or more factors between the following can cause results outside the specified range:
- expired or defective control solution;
- reactive strip expired or defective;
- error during test execution;
- diluted control solution;
- instrument malfunction;
- test of the control solution performed outside the operating system temperature range between 10 °C and 40 °C;
- the bottle of the control solution is not stirred vigorously before use;
- the first drop of control solution is not discarded and the tip of the bottle is not cleaned.
If the tool continues to give results outside the appropriate acceptable range printed on the BGStar reactive strip bottle, the reactive strip and tool may not work properly. In this case, do not use the system and contact the distributor.

Testing procedure
To ensure accurate results, wash your hands with soap and water. Make sure there is no grease, oil or lotion on the withdrawal area. Dry your hands well.
Remove the punch cap, insert a new hand and unplug the hand cap. Reposition the sting cap, in case samples are taken from the fingertips, set the depth level of the sting and arm the lever.
Insert a new reactive strip. Punch the fingertip, palm of the hand (at the base of the thumb) or forearm. Check in the instruction manual for the use of the tool if the withdrawal from alternative areas is allowed.
When the tool displays the blood drop symbol, bring the blood sample into contact with the end of the BGStar reactive strip.
When the result of the full time and date blood sugar test is displayed on the display, the test is finished and the result is saved in memory.
Remove the reactive strip used by the tool and dispose properly. The tool will be turned off automatically.
Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water after handling the blood sugar meter, the stinging and reactive strips.

Meaning of test results
- Results below 20 mg/dL: If the test result is less than 20 mg/dL, a message is displayed on the meter display indicating a hypoglycemia condition (low blood sugar). Consult the user manual for more details. It is advisable to take another test immediately. If you obtain a result less than 20 mg/dL again, follow the treatment scheme recommended by the attending physician, or contact him immediately.

- Results higher than 600 mg/dL: if the test result is higher than 600 mg/dL, a message is displayed on the meter display indicating a hyperglycemia condition (high blood sugar). Consult the user manual for more details. It is advisable to take another test immediately. If you get a result higher than 600 mg/dL again, follow the doctor's advice to treat the condition of hyperglycemia. It may be advisable to check the level of ketone bodies.

The normal fasting blood sugar range for an adult not suffering from diabetes is 70-99 mg/dL.
Always consult your doctor for information on the recommended acceptable intervals for the patient.

Warnings
Keep reactive strips and bottle of reactive strips away from the reach of children. Reactive strips can be dangerous if swallowed. The bottle contains drying agents that may be dangerous if inhaled or ingested and may cause irritation of the eyes and skin.
Reactive strips must be used once. Don't reuse. Correctly remove the used reactive strips.
If a reactive strip does not absorb the blood sample contact the distributor.
Carefully read the user manual provided with BGStar, iBGStar or MyStar family meters before using BGStar reactive strips.
The tool for the determination of blood sugar and sting should be used by one patient. Do not share them with anyone, including family members. Do not use for multiple patients.
All parts of the system can potentially transmit infectious diseases, although they are disinfected. Refer to the use manual of BGStar, iBGStar, and MyStar family meters for instructions on tool disinfection.
To ensure accurate results, wash your hands and picking area with soap and lukewarm water before testing. Dry carefully. Unclean pickup hands and aerials can lead to un accurate results. Make sure there is no fat, oil or lotion on the withdrawal area.
Use hands once. Do not use a sting or a hand that has already been used by another person.
In the case of patients in a state of shock or individuals in severe hypotension conditions, the tool could give accurate results. In case of hyperglycemic/hyperosmolar individuals, with or without ketosis, the tool could give inaccurate results of less than average value. Patients under critical conditions should not undergo a test using a tool to determine blood sugar.
Severe dehydration and excessive liquid loss can cause un accurate results. If you suspect suffering from severe dehydration, consult your doctor immediately.
The tool could give unaccurate results in oxygen-therapy patients.
Results of less than 70 mg/dL may indicate reduced blood sugar levels (hypoglycemia). Results of higher value than 240 mg/dL may indicate high blood sugar levels (hyperglycemia). It may be advisable to check the level of ketone bodies.
If results are less than 70 mg/dL or higher than 240 mg/dL and there are no symptoms of hypoglycemia or hyperglycemia, repeat the test. In case there are symptoms or you continue to obtain results less than 70 mg/dL or higher than 240 mg/dL, follow the treatment scheme recommended by the doctor or contact him immediately.
If there are any symptoms in contrast with the results of the blood glucose test carried out following all the instructions contained in the manual for use provided with the BGStar and iBGStar tools or the MyStar family, follow the doctor's advice or contact him immediately.
Do not use expired or damaged reactive strips, to avoid obtaining inaccurate results.
Gently brush the BGStar reactive strips with clean and dry hands when extracting from the bottle or entering the instrument.
Store reactive strips exclusively in their original bottle; in no case preserve them in another bottle, another container or outside the bottle. Close the bottle cap immediately and firmly after removing a reactive strip from the bottle.
Do not bend, cut or alter the BGStar reactive strips.
Put the end of the BGStar reactive strip sampling area in contact exclusively with fresh capillary blood or control solution.

Conservation
Store the BGStar reactive strip bottle in a cool and dry place at a temperature between 8 °C and 30 °C. Use the BGStar reactive strips only at an operating system temperature between 10 °C and 40 °C. Keep away from direct sunlight and heat.
