ETILTEST
ALCOL TEST SALES
Etil Test is an enzyme test for rapid and safe detection of the presence of alcohol (alc) (ethyl alcohol/ethanol) in saliva and other liquid samples. Analyzing the saliva sample it is possible to determine the concentration of alcohol in the blood. With this enzymatic analysis, a qualitative result is obtained, that is, the test shows the presence of alcohol in the samples.
The analysis detects a concentration of ethanol at 0.1 or 10 mg/dL, which is displayed by a clear-gray green color of the reactive buffer or swab of the test. Green becomes more intense when the concentration of alcohol in the sample increases. Therefore, in the presence of alcohol in the sample, Etil Test determines a change of color ranging from light-gray green in the presence of a concentration of alcohol of 0,1 , passing to a slightly more intense green with an average concentration, up to take on a dark green-gray color if the concentration of alcohol approaches to 1,50 .
We recommend using this visual test only as a qualitative test, as the ability to discrimination of the human eye can determine errors in terms of quantitative results.
Measure 5 levels of alcohol in the body: 0.00 g/l - 0.20 g/l - 0.50 g/l - 0,80 g/l - 1,50 g/l.
The Etil Test test consists of a plastic stick whose end is covered with a reactive buffer. The tampon, in contact with alcohol solutions, is quickly coloured with shades from green to blue, depending on the amount of alcohol contained in the liquid. The reactive buffer reacts according to a solid-stage chemical synthesis.
Mode of use
1. Do not introduce anything in the mouth in the fifteen (15) minutes before the start of the test. This warning includes non-alcoholic beverages, tobacco products, coffee, mints for breath, food, etc.
2. Bring to room temperature (15-30°C) the sealed bag, to avoid moisture condensation on the reactive buffer.
3. If you analyze liquid samples other than saliva, make sure that such liquids are at ambient temperatures before testing.
4. Open the package and remove the stick. Observe the reactive buffer on the end of the stick. The tampon should be light cream color. A stick that has a dark brown or stained reactive tampon must be eliminated.
5. Impregnate the reactive tampon with the liquid or saliva taken from the mouth or a spit. Start the stopwatch immediately.
6. After two (2) minutes observe the color that changes (if it changes) on the reactive pad. If the swab becomes green or dark green-gray means that the test has detected the presence of alcohol and the result is positive. The results obtained after more than 3 minutes can be mistaken.
7. Stimulate the approximate concentration of alcohol in the blood, comparing the color of the reactive tampon with the color scale on the test packaging. We recommend the use of visual testing only as a qualitative test.
Interpretation of results
After 2 minutes read the color of the reactive pad Do not compare the result of the stick with other color scales. Use only the color scale shown on the packaging. The reaction occurs more slowly in the saliva than in other aqueous solutions.
Limits
If after introducing food, beverages or other in the mouth, they do not expect at least 15 minutes before testing, the results may be mistaken due to the possible contamination of saliva with interfering substances.
Etil Test has been conceived and calibrated to be interpreted 2 minutes after having funneled the reactive buffer. If you expect over 2 minutes, the highlighted results can be wrong or you can have false positive results.
Etil Test can be used to detect alcohol in fluids other than saliva. However, if used in this way, the color scale shown on the package cannot be used as a reference.
If alcohol is present in the fluid, the colour of the tampon will take on a colour ranging from light-gray to black or cocoa, to increase the concentration of alcohol. If the swab is immersed in pure alcohol, the tampon will color slightly or will not color at all, because of the absence of water that is necessary for the reaction of color.
In analyzing drinks, the result can only be considered positive if the tampon becomes very dark brown.
Etil Test is a very sensitive alcohol test. Alcoholic vapours often present in the air are sometimes detected by Etil Test.
Alcohol vapors are often present in many public places and in houses. Alcohol is found in many household cleaning products such as disinfectants, deodorants and glass cleaners. If alcohol vapours are suspected, the test should be carried out in an area where these vapours are not present (outdoor, for example).
Note: The person who will read the test results can not be daltonic.
Controls
It is possible to verify qualitatively the integrity of the Etil Test, using a prepared solution by adding in a glass of water, 4 drops of liquor distilled at 40% of alcohol volume.
With this solution, the coloring should correspond to the window equal to or greater than 0.04% (more dark).
The color reaction with alcohol in the saliva occurs more slowly and with a less intense color than alcohol in aqueous solutions.
Description
Specificity: etil test will react in the presence of methyl, ethyl and alyl alcohol. Etil Test will not produce any reaction with alcohol having 5 or more carbon atoms, glycine, glycerol or serine.
This property derives from the specification of the enzyme of oxidase of alcohol extracted from yeast.
Interactions
The following substances can interfere with the Etil Test stick if you use liquid samples other than saliva:
Agents that intensify the coloring:
- Peroxide.
- Strong oxidizing.
- (common in detergents, decapants and whitening substances).
Agents that inhibit coloring:
Reducing agents:
- Ascorbic acid.
- Tannic acid.
- Pirogallolo.
- Mercaptani and tosilati.
- Oxalic acid.
- uric acid.
- Bilirubin.
- L-dopamine.
- L-methyldopamine.
- Metampirone.
These substances are usually not present in the saliva in quantities such as to interfere with the test. However, it is necessary not to be introduced in the mouth in the 15 minutes preceding the test.
Warnings
- Disposable.
- Product not intended for medical or diagnostic purposes.
- Do not use it beyond the expiry date.
- To absorb to the reactive buffer a quantity of liquid so as to impregnate it completely.
- Do not eat, drink or smoke while the samples or kit are manipulated.
- Do not use the test if the bag is damaged.
- Bring reagents to room temperature (15-30°C) before use.
- Don't touch the reactive pad on the stick to avoid contaminating it.
- Avoid contaminating samples with each sample, using a new collection container for each sample.
- Not to be used for medical or diagnostic use.
- Manipulate all the samples as if they contain infectious agents. During the test, observe precautions against microbiological risks and follow the standard procedures provided for proper disposal of samples.
- Leave the stick in the sealed bag until it is used.
- Observe the test result after 2-3 minutes.
- Humidity and high temperatures can affect test results.
- Do not test in the atmosphere containing alcohol.
- Pure alcohol can give false results.
- Pay attention to any cross-reactivity.
- We recommend the use of visual testing only as a qualitative test.
- The person who reads the results can't be daltonic.
Conservation
The test kit must be kept in the fridge or at room temperature (2-30C°) in the sealed bag, depending on the shelf life of the product.
Bring the stick to room temperature to avoid moisture condensation on the reactive buffer.
