LATTULOSO ALMUS 66.7% OFFICE
active ingredients
100 ml of syrup contain 66.7 g of lattulose. For excipients, see paragraph 6.1.Excellent
Potassium sorbato, orange essence, purified water.Therapeutic indications
Short-term treatment of occasional constipation.Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to the active ingredient or any of the excipients. Laxatives are contraindicated in subjects with acute or unknown abdominal pain, nausea or vomiting, obstruction or intestinal stenosis, rectal bleeding of unknown origin, severe state of dehydration. Contraindicated in subjects affected by galactosemia. Generally contraindicated during pregnancy and nursing (see p. 4.6). Generally contraindicated in pediatric age (see p. 4.4).Population
Adults 10 g per day (equal to 1 tablespoon) as an initial dose, followed by 5 g per day as a maintenance therapy. A higher initial dose (10 - 20 g) may be required in certain subjects, which must be progressively reduced to the normal maintenance dose. In sensitive subjects it is advisable instead to adopt lower posologies. Children • from 6 to 14 years: 10 g per day (3 teaspoons) as an initial dose, followed by 6 g per day as a maintenance therapy (2 teaspoons). • from 1 to 5 years: 3 - 6 g per day (1 - 2 teaspoons). • milking: 3 g per day (1 teaspoon). 1 tablespoon = 15 ml = 10 g lattulose. 1 teaspoon coffee = 5 ml = 3,3 g lattulose. The correct dose is sufficient to produce an easy evacuation of soft feces. It is advisable to initially use the minimum doses provided. When necessary, the dose may be increased, but never exceed the maximum indicated. Preferably in the evening. The daily dose can also be taken in one administration, preferably in the morning to fast or in the evening before the meal. Eating together with an adequate amount of water (a plentiful glass). A fluid-rich diet promotes the effect of the medicine. Laxatives must be used as frequently as possible and for no more than seven days. Use for longer periods requires the doctor’s prescription after adequate evaluation of the individual case.Conservation
None.Warnings
Warnings Laxative abuse (frequent or prolonged use or excessive doses) can cause persistent diarrhea resulting in water loss, mineral salts (especially potassium) and other essential nutrients. In the most serious cases, dehydration or hypopotassiemia may occur, which may result in cardiac or neuromuscular dysfunctions, especially in the case of contemporary treatment with cardiac glycosides, diuretics or corticosteroids. The abuse of laxatives, especially those of contact (stimulating laxatives), can cause dependence (and, therefore, possible need to gradually increase the dosage), chronic constipation and loss of normal intestinal functions (intestinal atonia). Do not use the drug if there are abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting. After a short period of treatment without appreciable results, consult your doctor. Keep the medicine out of reach and view of children. Precautions for use In children under 12 years, the medicine can only be used after consulting the doctor. Treatment of chronic or recurring constipation always requires medical intervention for diagnosis, prescription of drugs and surveillance during therapy. Consult your doctor when the need for laxative comes from a sudden change of previous intestinal habits (frequency and evacuation characteristics) that lasts for more than two weeks or when the use of laxative fails to produce effects. Patients in digital therapy should consult the doctor before starting therapy. You should also consult your doctor before using the medicine. Lattulose is a poorly absorbable and non metabolized sugar; however, for the presence of other sugars such as lactose, galactose and tagatose, for diabetic patients it is necessary to inform the doctor.Interactions
Laxatives can reduce the time of stay in the intestine, and therefore the absorption, of other drugs administered simultaneously orally. Avoid ingesting laxatives and other drugs at the same time: after taking a medicine let spend a range of at least 2 hours before taking laxative. Wide-spectrum antibacterial agents and antacids administered for os at the same time as lattulose, can reduce its degradation by limiting the possibility of acidification of the intestinal content and consequently therapeutic effectiveness. In the case of LATTULOSIO ALMUS potassium depletion, the toxicity of digitals increases. It is possible a synergistic effect with neomycin.Effects
Occasionally: isolated crampiform pain or abdominal colic pain, more frequent in cases of severe constipation, flatulence. Such symptoms are usually mild and usually leave after the first days of treatment; if not, a dose reduction is appropriate. Exceptionally after long treatment, electrolytes can be lost.Overdosing
Excessive doses can cause abdominal pain and diarrhea; the consequent losses of liquids and electrolytes must be replaced. Diarrhea and abdominal cramps are reversible with the suspension of the drug. See also in paragraph 4.4 about the abuse of laxatives. There are no adequate and well-controlled studies on the use of pregnant or nursing medicine. Therefore the medicinal product must be used only in case of need, under the direct control of the doctor, after evaluating the expected benefit for the mother in relation to the possible risk for the fetus or for the infant.
