Description
Food supplement based on N-acetylcysteine (NAC), lactferrin, L-methylfolate of calcium and cyanocobolamin (vitamin B12), specially formulated to fluidize bronchial secretions, increase immune defenses against respiratory infections caused by viruses and bacteria, and reduce plasma concentrations of homocysteine.
It is recommended for the food integration in course of acute and chronic affections of the respiratory system characterized by dense and viscous hypersecretions, which are manifested mainly in course of: acute bronchitis, chronic bronchitis and its recuatizations, pulmonary emphysema, mucoviscedosis and bronchiectasia.
N-acetyl-L-cysteine (NAC) exercises intense mucolitic-fluidifying action on pulmonary and bronchial secretions, depolimerizing muco-proteic complexes and nucleic acids that give vischiosity to the vitreous and purulent component of excreate and other secretions. It also carries out a direct antioxidant action being equipped with a free tiolic group (-SH) that can interact directly with electrophilic groups of oxidizing radicals. Within the cells NAC is deacetylated, thus making L-Cisteine available, an essential amino acid for Glutatione synthesis (GSH). GSH is a highly reactive tripeptide, present in the various tissues of animal organisms, essential for maintaining functional capacity and cellular morphological integrity, as it represents the most important intracellular defense mechanism towards free oxidizing radicals, both esogenous and endogenous, and towards numerous cytotoxic substances.
Lactoferrin is a multifunctional globular protein with antimicrobial and immunostimulating activity. It is mainly found in breast milk, but is present in many mucous membrane secretions, such as tears, saliva, nasal secreto and bronchial secreto. Lactoferrin is an important component of the aspecific anti-infective system and inhibits bacterial and viral growth at the level of mucosal surfaces. It is also equipped with immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects.
L-methylfolate is the biologically active form of folic acid, it is completely bioavailable, it does not require metabolic transformations and does not suffer from C667T genetic polymorphism related to MTHFR enzyme. It is useful to reduce plasma concentrations of homocysteine, frequently elevated in subjects with chronic respiratory disease and cardiovascular comorbidity.
Cyanocobalamin (vitamin B12) is a water-soluble vitamin, enhances the effects of L-methylfolate in reducing plasma concentrations of homocysteine.
