Boswellia is a genus of plants belonging to the Burseraceae family. The resin that exudes from the bark of this plant consists of polysaccharides and boswellic acids. Boswellic acids exert selective inhibition on an enzyme capable of stimulating the production of endogenic substances that facilitate inflammatory processes, resulting in reduced blood levels. Boswellia is used as an anti-inflammatory and anti-arthritis remedy and is useful in the treatment of rheumatisms of soft tissues, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, or in all those cases where there is an ongoing inflammatory process.
