In order to prevent reinfection with a so-called ping-pong mechanism, the treatment of the partner with antifungal is also indispensable. For local hygiene we recommend the use of neutral pH or alkaline soaps, as acid pH soaps can promote Candida proliferation. In the case of local intolerance or allergic reaction, the treatment must be stopped and the removal of the residual product may be carried out by vaginal irrigation. The use of the product may affect the effectiveness of latex contraceptive devices (preservatives and diaphragms), as it may cause the break. The product can also be used in the menstrual period.Interactions
We do not recommend the concomitant use of spermicides, as the product can reduce or inactivate its contraceptive activity.Effects
Rarely, manifestations of local intolerance have been reported, such as burning or itching sensation, resoltesi, generally, spontaneously. There are possible allergy phenomena. Rarely an increase in liver enzymes has been reported.Overdosing
There are no predictable phenomena related to overdose of the drug.Imidazolic antifungals, despite their minimal systemic absorption, are not generally recommended during pregnancy having been reported, in animal studies, undesirable effects on the fetus. However studies carried out with sertaconazole on different animal species have not evidenced embryotoxic and/or teratogenic effects. There are no adequate and well-controlled studies on the use of pregnant or nursing medicine. Therefore the medicine must be used only in case of need, under the direct control of the doctor, after evaluating the expected benefit for the mother in relation to the possible risk for the fetus or for the infant.
